Superior Insulation Delivers UM College of Pharmacy Firestop Project

Superior Insulation completed a firestop project at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in Ann Arbor, Mich., on time and on budget.

We take pride in delivering industry-leading firestopping solutions for innovative construction projects across the Midwest, and this project is another great example of our commitment to safety, quality and sustainability.

Project Overview

The UM College of Pharmacy’s new building is a standout project in Ann Arbor, not just for its academic importance but for its unique mass timber design. Mass timber buildings are at the forefront of sustainable construction, offering both environmental benefits and striking architectural appeal.

Superior Insulation was selected to provide all firestopping and acoustical penetration solutions for this state-of-the-art facility.

Firestopping and Acoustical Penetration Expertise

Our scope of work included installing comprehensive firestopping systems at every penetration point throughout the building. These systems are critical for maintaining the building’s fire-resistance rating, containing smoke and flames in the event of a fire, and ensuring the safety of students, faculty and staff.

This work is especially vital in a mass timber structure, as wood’s unique properties demand specialized knowledge and techniques to maintain safety and code compliance.

In addition to firestopping, Superior Insulation installed acoustical penetrations to help control sound transmission between rooms and floors. This ensures a quiet, productive environment for learning and research — an essential requirement for any academic building.

Commitment to Safety and Best Practices

Safety is Superior Insulation’s top priority. From project kickoff through completion, our team followed all OSHA guidelines and industry best practices. Every crew member was trained on the specific requirements of mass timber construction, and all installations were carefully documented and inspected to ensure compliance with the highest safety standards.

We are proud to report that the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy project was completed safely, on time and on budget. This achievement is a direct reflection of our experienced project management, skilled installers and proactive communication with the construction team.

A Sustainable Showcase

This project was especially meaningful to our team because of its focus on sustainability.

“We love playing a role in sustainable building construction,” said Superior Insulation Project Manager Josh Stachowiak. “Not only does the building look fantastic, but we have a unique chance to showcase our abilities.”

Superior Insulation is honored to contribute to a project that advances education and research and sets a new standard for sustainable construction in higher education.
