Superior Wins Award for Intumescent Fireproofing at Crescent Hill Water Plant
This project, completed for the Louisville Water Company, demonstrates our expertise in industrial fireproofing and our commitment to safety, quality and client satisfaction.
Project Overview
Working alongside Corbett Construction, we provided intumescent fireproofing for all new and existing exposed steel throughout the chemical building, as well as the historic wood roof assembly.
Scope of Work and Industry Best Practices
Every step of the installation followed industry best practices, with careful attention to surface preparation, application thickness and clean finishes that meet both safety standards and aesthetic expectations.
Overcoming Site-Specific Challenges
Fireproofing was not part of the original scope, requiring rapid coordination with the architect and general contractor, both of whom were new to intumescent fireproofing.
The building’s 100-year-old wood roof deck demanded special care to protect its historic character while achieving modern safety standards. Additionally, the site remained occupied throughout construction, necessitating extra precautions to minimize disruptions and maintain a clean, safe environment.
Despite supply chain delays and multiple mobilizations due to steel delivery schedules, our team remained flexible and proactive. We coordinated closely with the general contractor and the owner to ensure materials and equipment arrived on time and that work could proceed efficiently whenever our crews were on site.
Commitment to Safety and Quality
“This project showcases our ability to deliver complex fireproofing solutions under challenging conditions,” said Thomas E. Dake, II, Superior Insulation President/CEO. “Our installers take special care to protect people and property, ensuring a high-quality result every time.”
